Stranding

The grounding of the vessel, causing it to remain fast for an appreciable length of time.

Mere contact of the vessel with the bottom without losing momentum and proceeding on course is commonly termed as "touch-and-go" and is not considered a stranding.

Simplistically, Strandings are Groundings ending in Salvage while Wreckings result in Constructive Total Loss or Actual Total Loss. In a remote area, a simple Stranding may turn into a Constructive Total Loss.
